Implementation of a mobile device management system at Jöbstl

In recent years, the use of mobile devices in companies has increased significantly, which has heightened the need for secure and efficient management of these devices. As part of its digital transformation, Jöbstl is facing the challenge of fragmented control over work and private mobile phones without centralised security policies.

Such circumstances increase the risk of unauthorised access, data loss and misuse in the event of a device being lost or stolen. The implementation of a mobile device management (MDM) system is therefore crucial to enable centralised management, automated installation of updates and remote management of devices.

The aim of this thesis was to examine the effects of introducing an MDM solution on mobile device security, the operational efficiency of the IT infrastructure and the optimisation of work processes at Jöbstl. The objectives included analysing the existing situation at the company, selecting a suitable solution, technical implementation, functional testing and the development of strategies for responding to potential security incidents.

The investigation was based on an analysis of specialist literature in the field of MDM and cyber security, a case study with evaluation of internal documents, and observation of work processes. This was followed by the planned implementation of the selected solution and extensive testing of its functionalities and security mechanisms.

Taking into account the company’s infrastructure and financial conditions, ManageEngine Endpoint Central was selected as the optimal solution. The platform was installed locally on a Windows Server 2022, integrated into Active Directory and additionally adapted for users without an AD account.

Security policies were configured – including complex passwords, storage encryption, restrictions on applications and network access – and network segmentation and closed zoning of the server were set up.
