New Beginnings in Maribor – Erasmus Journeys of Basema and Dania from Al Hussein Technical University

Erasmus is more than just a program — it’s a life-changing opportunity. For Basema and Dania, both students from Al Hussein Technical University in Jordan, this year marked the beginning of an unforgettable chapter. They took their first steps into this adventure in the picturesque city of Maribor, Slovenia, at Academia. Though their paths and motivations differ, their stories now intertwine along the banks of the Drava River.

Basema has just embarked on an exciting new phase of her life through the Erasmus program. Selected by her university to intern abroad, she arrived in Maribor with a mix of nerves and excitement. Leaving her home, family, and friends in Jordan was emotional, but she understood the incredible opportunity that awaited her — one that promised both academic and personal growth.
From her first week in Maribor, she was captivated by the city’s charm. Its peaceful streets, unique character, and especially the serene banks of the Drava River quickly made a lasting impression. That riverbank has already become a favorite spot — a place where she can unwind and reflect after a long day. What stood out most to Basema was the warmth of the people. From Academia staff, to local residents, everyone she encountered was welcoming and eager to help. This kindness reminded her of home and eased the transition into her new environment.
Though only a short time has passed, Maribor is already beginning to feel like a second home. Basema looks ahead with anticipation to the months to come — eager for the experiences, friendships, and growth that lie ahead.

For Dania, the Erasmus experience marked another milestone — it was her first time away from her family. She arrived in Slovenia carrying a wave of emotions: fear, excitement, and longing all at once. Yet from the moment she stepped in Maribor, the city’s vibrant yet cozy atmosphere made her feel welcome and encouraged her to embrace the journey.
As a student of Energy Engineering, Dania finds deep meaning in her studies. But this Erasmus chapter is about more than academics — it’s about discovering her inner strength and embracing independence. With each passing day, she feels herself growing, gaining confidence, and uncovering new possibilities for her future.
“Though Basema and Dania began their Erasmus journeys differently, both found in Maribor a city full of inspiration, comfort, and opportunity. In just one week, it has already begun to feel like home. With three more months ahead, they are both eager to explore more, build lasting friendships, and create unforgettable memories — together — on this life-changing Erasmus journey.”
