Two Paths, One City: Dania and Basema’s Chapter in Maribor

Sometimes, the most meaningful growth happens when we step far outside what is familiar. For Dania and Basema, students from Al Hussein Technical University in Jordan, that step led them to Maribor, Slovenia, where they completed their internships at Academia and experienced a chapter that would shape them both personally and professionally.

When Dania first arrived in Maribor, everything felt unfamiliar—the streets, the language, and the quiet reality of being far from home. What initially felt overwhelming slowly transformed into a space for growth. Through her time at Academia, she learned far more than engineering concepts. She discovered resilience, independence, and the importance of trusting herself even during challenging moments. Academia became more than a workplace; it became a home where she grew academically, professionally, and personally.
By the end of her journey, Dania looked back with pride, realizing she was capable of far more than she had ever imagined. While this chapter came to an end, the lessons, friendships, and memories she built in Maribor will stay with her forever.

Basema’s experience followed a similar path of discovery, though it began with curiosity about a completely new environment. From the start, Maribor stood out to her with its calm, simplicity, and organized lifestyle. The city’s peaceful atmosphere made it easy to adapt, and daily walks between her accommodation and the office became a routine she genuinely enjoyed. Inside Academia, she found a professional and welcoming environment where interns were truly included.
Rather than just observing, Basema actively participated in real tasks, attended structured meetings, and contributed to ongoing projects. This hands-on involvement helped her build confidence and gain an understanding of how professional workflows operate in an international setting.

For both Dania and Basema, the internship at Academia was more than a professional opportunity—it was a turning point. Coming from Al Hussein Technical University in Jordan, they not only gained practical experience but also developed a broader perspective on work, culture, and personal growth.
Maribor and Academia became a shared chapter in their journeys, one defined by courage, learning, and transformation—a chapter they will always look back on with gratitude.
