Florence as a classroom for the future: European teachers united in a mission of inclusion

Between September 22 and 26, 2025, Florence became more than just a city of art—it transformed into a hub of educational innovation. Forty-nine teachers and mentors from six countries (Turkey, Italy, Bulgaria, Norway, Portugal, and Slovenia) participating in the ERASMUS+ EMSTEP project gathered at the former prison, now a cultural space called Le Murate. Slovenia was represented at the event by Academia, together with eight representatives from the primary schools of Sladki vrh, Kungota, and Loče.

The program was designed to promote practical training and the exchange of good practices. Participants took part in workshops where they tried their hand at teaching simulations, creating learning activities for diverse learners, and learning about specific tools for more inclusive classrooms. They also visited local schools and explored the rich cultural heritage of Florence, which further enriched their experience.

The event reaffirmed that inclusion is more than just a teaching method—it is a value and a foundation for building the future of education. International cooperation enabled participants to exchange knowledge, strengthen empathy, and build professional connections, which will contribute significantly to the further development of inclusive practices in schools.

Special thanks go to the schools that helped make this unforgettable week possible: Sladki Vrh Primary School, Kungota Primary School, and Loče Primary School.
