The thesis explores hydrogen as the energy carrier of the future in pipeline networks, focusing on its implementation and technical guidelines. In the context of global climate goals and the transition to sustainable energy, hydrogen represents one of the most promising solutions for decarbonizing the energy sector.

The thesis analyzes the main advantages of hydrogen, particularly its potential to completely eliminate CO₂ emissions during use, and the role of green hydrogen, produced from renewable energy, which enables sustainable energy supply.

Despite its advantages, hydrogen also presents challenges related to its integration into existing pipeline networks designed for natural gas transport. Key technical challenges include material compatibility, resistance to hydrogen embrittlement and the need for adaptations in compressor and reducing stations.

The thesis also examines the economic and safety aspects that are critical for the successful implementation of hydrogen into energy systems.

The analysis addresses the current state of pipeline networks and their readiness for the transition to hydrogen. The thesis investigates how technological upgrades and the introduction of new standards can ensure the safe and efficient use of hydrogen.

Additionally, it presents possibilities for transporting pure hydrogen and hydrogen-natural gas blends, as well as studies demonstrating that the use of hydrogen can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.

The research also highlights political and social factors that will play a crucial role in the transition to a hydrogen economy. Long-term success will depend on the support of policymakers, economic stakeholders, and the general public. International cooperation and the development of unified standards for the safe use of hydrogen in pipeline networks will also be essential.

Technological progress, financial incentives, and strategic planning will be key to the successful integration of hydrogen into the energy sector. A comprehensive approach to the transition will enable decarbonization of industries and households while enhancing energy independence.

The thesis provides a comprehensive overview of the opportunities and challenges associated with introducing hydrogen as the energy carrier of the future, contributing to a better understanding of its role in a sustainable energy system.
