Network Computing

The Student of the Year 2022 of the Network computing programme was awarded to Nejc Perhavec, who was the most successful and fastest in completing the requirements of the Network computing programme of the 2020-2022 generation.

1. What does the title Network computing Student 2022 mean to you?

I was quite surprised by the news, I didn’t expect it at all. But it is definitely an indication that I have chosen the right approach to my studies and put in the effort to achieve such an achievement.

2. Why did you choose to study at Academia Maribor?

I have always had the desire to obtain this formal education and I know that I have ambitions in this direction. I had the goal of graduating years ago, and I was further motivated by my sister, who graduated last year.

I looked at several schools before deciding, but Academia was the one I liked the most because of the subject matter, and the biggest factor was the option to study remotely, as I work full-time and travelling to Maribor would have taken too much time.

3. What do you enjoy most about your studies?

Especially the practical part; the tutorials and the laboratory exercises. In the tutorials, I was able to help my classmates a lot due to my previous experience as a junior programmer at work, but I also learned a lot of new things myself, as the tutorials were structured in a very informative and interesting way, with an emphasis on individual work.

4. How does studying at the Academia help you in your career and personal development?

I have recently taken over the management of a 6-person IT team, and I have the desire to reach a higher level in the company where I work, so I decided to study System Programming at VSŠ Academia. In my personal development, I have noticed better communication, self-initiative and teamwork, which has further benefited me in my position as IT team leader.

5. What advice would you give to prospective students for a successful study?

I would tell all prospective students to work hard and try to get their work done on time and not to be late for tutorials. Of course, there is some sacrifice in studying, but this is small compared to the excellent classmates and the knowledge gained.
